Australian and New Zealand Law & Society Conference 2000

Legal Technologies and the Body Politic

Venue: Rydges Hotel, Brisbane

Date: 6-8 December 2000

Papers are invited which address the conference theme or one of the sub­ themes of:

• law, order and punishment

• the politicisation of human rights

• the politics of reconciliation

• law schools, legal education and socio-legal studies

• the role of theory

• globalisation and law

• technologies of the body

• the impact of economic rationalism

• revisions of the social settlement.

Paper proposals should be accompanied by an abstract of approx. I 00 words, and should be received by 18 August 2000.

Two reports from the Catholic Com­ mission for Justice, Development and Peace (Melbourne Archdiocese):

• What Makes a Good Juvenile Justice System?

This report, prepared in conjunction with Catholic Social Services, was a submission to the Victorian Minister for Community Services who was seeking ideas on what would make a good juvenile justice system.

• Hordes or Human Beings

A discussion of some of the problems surrounding Australia's response to asylum seekers and possible solutions to those problems.
