Erkki Aalto is Defence Counsellor and National Armaments Director
Representative at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the Euro-
pean Union and at the Mission of Finland to NATO in Brussels. He deals
with issues concerning the European Defence Agency, NATO's armaments
policy and the EU's internal market aspects of defence. Before his current
posting, Erkki Aalto worked in the Mission of Finland to NATO and in the
Ministry of Defence in Finland. He is preparing a doctoral thesis on
national security exemptions in EU law at the University of Turku, Fin-
land. He holds degrees from the University of Turku (BA, MA) and from
the University of Aberdeen (LLM). He has published articles on defence
policy.
Anthony Arnull, BA, PhD, Solicitor, is Barber Professor of Jurisprudence at
Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
His research has focused mainly on the law of the European Union, in
particular the role and jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice. He is
the author of, among other things, The European Union and its Court of
Justice (Oxford University Press, 2nd edn, 2006) and a co-editor of several
collections of essays, the most recent of which is A Constitutional Order of
States? Essays in EU Law in Honour of Alan Dashwood (Hart Publishing,
2011). Professor Arnull is Consultant Editor of the European Law Review,
having been its co-editor from 1996 to 2007. From 1989 to 1992, he worked
at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg ...
