Preface
This collection originated from discussions held at a Jean Monnet work-
shop in September 2014 at Cardiff University's Centre for European Law
and Governance (CELAG), a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence funded
by the European Commission. The purpose of the workshop, organized
by the editors of this collection, was to bring together a number of leading
European Union (EU) legal, political science and regulatory scholars
working at national and international level on different aspects of enforce-
ment of EU law and policy. The papers delivered at the workshop, and
the subsequent discussions between the contributors, form the basis of the
chapters for the edited collection.
This collection aims to provide a foundation to bridge the gaps that
have emerged between these distinct disciplinary discourses, and by
doing so, engage with and develop new approaches to the enforcement
of EU law and policy. The collection explores new developments in
the effective enforcement of EU law and examines potential synergies
that may arise from these sometimes dissonant and distinct areas of
research and practice. In this sense, this collection makes an original and
innovative contribution to the literature on enforcement of EU law and
policy.
