Acknowledgements We are extremely grateful to the authors who contributed chapters to this book, the contents of which were considered at great length at King's College London in June 2013, where we came together to discuss the topic `European Union: Solidarity in Question'. We thoroughly enjoyed exchanging ideas on European solidarity and much appreciated the authors' patience with this publication. The meetings and valuable discussions we had were generously supported by the King's Centre of European Law and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, for which we are thankful.
