Abstract/Description:

In order to understand the interaction of the role of the rule of law in legal education it is necessary to appreciate how the legal order and the legal profession has changed over the past 100 years. As the global economy has shifted towards a neo-liberal order, law has followed the profession. The legal profession is composed of segments that serve corporate and individual interests and the latter is suffering as legal aid and the welfare state is shrinking. Law schools and legal education are following these trends valuing positions in large law firms over those elsewhere. The rule of law appears to take a back seat. Moreover, the introduction of technology into legal services is intensifying the process.
