Book Title: Human Rights, Export Credits and Development Cooperation
Editor(s): Linder, Barbara
Publisher: Edward Elgar Publishing
Section: Chapter 1
Section Title: Human rights in development cooperation
Number of pages: 45
Abstract/Description:
The relationship between the development system and the human rights system has traditionally been a difficult one. On the basis of a case study in Ethiopia this chapter will illustrate a range of human rights challenges and dilemmas donors may face when they cooperate with weak or undemocratic governance structures. Taking a closer look at the background and context of both systems it will provide insights on why human rights aspects are still marginalised in a range of development undertakings, particularly economic ones.
