Section Title: Financial regulation in New Zealand: optimizing twin peaks
Author(s): Dervan, Helen; Jensen, Simon
Number of pages: 21
Abstract/Description:
This chapter reviews the reforms made to New Zealand’s financial regulation following the global financial crisis. It analyses the steps taken to adopt the Twin Peaks regulatory model, focusing on the piecemeal reforms made to prudential regulation and identifies areas where further significant reform is necessary. The current review of prudential regulation is being undertaken by the New Zealand government, and, in the light of post-crisis reforms in other jurisdictions, considers appropriate prudential regulatory structures for New Zealand’s financial markets.
