Canberra Theatre Trust (Amendment) Ordinance 1986

An Ordinance to amend the Canberra Theatre Trust Ordinance 1965

Short title

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Canberra Theatre Trust (Amendment) Ordinance 1986.¹

Principal Ordinance

2. In this Ordinance, “Principal Ordinance” means the Canberra Theatre Trust Ordinance 1965.²

Functions of the Trust

3. Section 17 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a) by inserting after paragraph (a) the following paragraph:

“(aaa) where the Canberra Theatre Centre is not available or is unsuitable, prepare, present and manage, either with other persons or organisations or otherwise, artistic and cultural entertainments, displays and exhibitions, and other forms of entertainment and instruction, in any other place in the Territory;”; and

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) “paragraph (a)” and substituting “paragraphs (a) and (aaa)”.

Powers of Trust

4. Section 18 of the Principal Ordinance is amended—

(a) by inserting after paragraph (2) (a) the following paragraphs:

“(aa) to build sets and props, manufacture costumes and provide general technical services in respect of productions held outside the Canberra Theatre Centre;

(ab) to make staff available to persons and other organisations to assist in the presentation of artistic and cultural entertainment, displays and exhibitions, and other forms of entertainment and instruction, held at the Canberra Theatre Centre or elsewhere in the Territory;”; and

(b) by inserting in paragraph (e) “, or presented elsewhere in the Territory by the Trust,” after “Centre”.

Application of moneys

5. Section 26 of the Principal Ordinance is amended by omitting “Subject to section 63E of the Audit Act 1901 in its application to the Trust, the moneys” and substituting “The moneys”.
