The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title 

4 

 

  This Act is the Commonwealth Inscribed Stock Amendment (Debt 

5 

Ceiling) Act 2018.

2  Commencement 

7 

 

(1)  Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table 

8 

commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with 

9 

column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect 

10 

according to its terms.

Commonwealth Inscribed Stock Act 1911

1  After section 4

Insert:

5  Limit on stock and securities on issue 

6 

 

(1)  The total face value of stock and securities on issue under this Act 

7 

and the Loans Securities Act 1919 at any time must not exceed 

8 

$600 billion. 

9 

 

(2)  In working out the total face value of that stock and securities, 

10 

disregard stock and securities of the kind mentioned in 

11 

subsection 51JA(2A). 

12 

 

(3)  For the purposes of this section, the face value of a Treasury 

13 

Indexed Bond is taken to be its face value at the time it was issued.

2  Application provision 

15 

The amendment made by item 1 applies to stock and securities on issue 

16 

after the commencement of that item, regardless of whether the stock 

17 

and securities were issued before or after the commencement of that 

18 

item.
