A Bill for an Act to amend the Sex Discrimination Act
1984
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the Sex Discrimination Amendment Act
1996.
This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal
Assent.
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or
repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any
other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its
terms.
1 Paragraphs 40(2)(a), (c), (d), (e), (f), (i)
and (j)
Repeal the paragraphs.
2 After subsection 40(2)
Insert:
(2A) Nothing in Division 1 or 2, as applying by reference to section 6,
affects anything done by a person in direct compliance with any of the following
as in force on 1 August 1984:
(a) the Gift Duty Assessment Act 1941;
(b) the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936;
(c) the International Tax Agreements Act 1953;
(d) the Sales Tax (Exemptions and Classifications) Act
1935;
(e) the Taxation (Unpaid Company Tax) Assessment Act
1982.
(2B) Nothing in Division 1 or 2:
(a) as applying by reference to section 5, affects anything done by a
person in direct compliance with paragraph 16(1)(a) of the Social Services
Act 1980 of Norfolk Island as in force on 1 August 1984; or
(b) as applying by reference to section 6, affects anything done by a
person in direct compliance with item 1 or 2 of the Schedule to that Act as in
force on that date.
(2C) Paragraph (2)(b) has no effect on or after 1 January 2014.
3 Subsection 40(3)
Omit “the Gift Duty Assessment Act 1941,”.
