A Bill for an Act to amend the Social Security Act
1991 to provide for young students’ eligibility for the carer payment,
and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the Social Security Amendment (Supporting
Young Carers) Act 2003.
This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal
Assent.
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or
repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any
other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its
terms.
1 Subsection 198AC(4)
Omit “If:”, substitute “Subject to subsection (4A),
if:”.
2 After subsection 198AC(4)
Insert:
(4A) However, paragraph (4)(c) does not apply to any temporary
cessation in which the person personally providing constant care is:
(a) undertaking either part-time or full-time study; and
(b) under the age of 25 years.
