           ADDENDUM TO THE EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

 INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF LIVE ANIMAL EXPORTS AMENDMENT (ANIMAL
                      WELFARE) BILL 2023

The purpose of this addendum is to provide additional clarifying material for the Explanatory
Memorandum to the Inspector-General of Live Animal Exports Amendment (Animal Welfare)
Bill 2023 (the Bill).

The addendum provides additional explanatory material in relation to appropriate expertise,
qualifications, skills or experience of the Inspector-General, to be appointed under the Act as
amended by the Bill.

SCHEDULE 1 - Amendments

Background

1. At the end of paragraph 10 on page 4 of the Explanatory Memorandum, insert:

   To ensure that the Inspector-General, to be appointed under the Act as amended by the
   Bill, is well positioned to carry out the expanded functions of the office, it is expected that
   the selection process for the most suitable candidate will ensure that the below
   qualifications and experience will be considered, and that the selected candidate will have
   appropriate expertise, qualifications, skills or experience in one or more of the following:
       •  veterinary science;
       •  auditing and/or systems assessment;
       •  regulatory experience.

2. This additional material provides further information on the expertise, qualifications, skills
   or experience that the Inspector-General would be expected to have, and which would be
   taken into account during the selection process for the appropriate candidate.
