AUSTRALIAN NUCLEAR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ORGANISATION ACT 1987 No. 3 of 1987 - SECT 16
Meetings of Board
16. (1) The Chairperson-
(a) shall convene such meetings of the Board as the Chairperson considers
necessary for the efficient performance of the functions of the Board;
and
(b) shall convene a meeting of the Board on receipt of a written request
signed by not fewer than 2 other members.
(2) The Minister may convene such meetings of the Board as the Minister
considers necessary.
(3) The Chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Board at which he or
she is present.
(4) Where the Chairperson is not present at a meeting of the Board-
(a) the Deputy Chairperson shall preside at the meeting; or
(b) if the Deputy Chairperson is not present at the meeting-the members
present shall appoint one of their number to preside at the meeting.
(5) Subject to sub-section (6) and to sub-section 18 (3), at a meeting of the
Board, a quorum is constituted if-
(a) the number of members present constitute a majority of the members for
the time being holding office; and
(b) a majority of the members present are non-staff members.
(6) Where, by reason of sub-section 15 (2), a member is not present at a
meeting of the Board during a deliberation of the Board with respect to a
matter but-
(a) there would be a quorum if that member were present; and
(b) a majority of the remaining members are non-staff members, the
remaining members present constitute a quorum for the purpose of any
deliberation or decision of the Board at that meeting with respect to
that matter.
(7) Questions arising at a meeting of the Board shall be determined by a
majority of the votes of the members present and voting.
(8) The person presiding at a meeting of the Board has a deliberative vote
and, in the event of an equality of votes, also has a casting vote.
