AUSTRALIAN POSTAL CORPORATION AMENDMENT ACT 1994 No. 142 of 1994 - SECT 24

Repeal of section 73 and substitution of new section
24.(1) Section 73 of the Principal Act is repealed and the following section
is substituted: Appointment of directors

"73.(1) The directors are to be appointed by the Governor-General on the
nomination of the Minister.

"(2) The Minister must consult with the Chairperson before nominating a person
for appointment as a director.

"(3) In nominating persons for appointment as directors, the Minister must
have regard to the need to ensure that the directors collectively possess an
appropriate balance of expertise and, in particular, include a person who the
Minister, after consultations with representatives of industrial organisations
representing employees, is satisfied has an appropriate understanding of the
interests of employees.

"(4) The appointment of a person as a director is not invalid merely because
of a defect or irregularity in relation to the appointment.".

(2) The amendment made by subsection (1) applies to the appointment of persons
as directors after the commencement of this section.
