STATES GRANTS (SCHOOLS ASSISTANCE) ACT 1984 No. 126 of 1984 - SECT 56

56. (1) Where-

   (a)  a project is being, or is to be, carried out in Australia with the
        sole or principal object of promoting multicultural education in
        Australia; and

   (b)  the Minister is of the opinion that the project is of national
        significance and that it is desirable that assistance in connection
        with the project be provided under section 57, the Minister may
        approve the project for the purposes of that section.

(2) A reference in this section to multicultural education shall be read as
including a reference to education in English as a second language.
