No. XL. An Act for applying certain Sums arising from t h e R e v e n u e receivable in New South Wales to t h e Service thereof for the Year One thousand e i g h t h u n d r e d and fifty-three and for further appropriating t h e said Revenue. [27th December, 1852.] W H E R E A S by a certain Act of Parliament passed in the fifth and sixth year of the reign of Her present Majesty Queen Victoria intituled " An Act for the Government of New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land" it was among other things enacted that the Governor of the said Colony of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council should have authority to make laws for the peace welfare and good government of the said Colony and that with the deductions and subject to the provisions therein contained the whole of H e r Majesty's Revenue within the said Colony arising from taxes duties rates and imposts levied on H e r Majesty's subjects within the said Colony should be appropriated to the public service within the said Colony by Ordinances to be for that purpose enacted by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Legis lative Council of the said Colony and in no other manner And whereas by a certain other Act of Parliament passed in the thirteenth and fourteenth year of the reign of H e r said Majesty intituled " An Act for the better Government of Her Majesty's Australian Colonies " Colonies" it was amongst other things enacted that after the establishment of the Colony of Victoria so much of the said first recited Act as made payable to H e r Majesty H e r Heirs and Successors out of the Revenue F u n d of the said Colony of New South Wales the sums therein mentioned for defraying the expenses of the services and purposes named in the Schedules thereto annexed should be repealed and that in lieu thereof there should be payable to H e r Majesty every year out of the Revenue Funds arising from taxes duties rates and imposts levied within the said Colony of New South Wales after the establishment of the Colony of Victoria as aforesaid the several sums mentioned in the Schedule (A) to the said second recited Act annexed And whereas the Colony of Victoria hath been estab lished in manner provided by the said second recited Act Be it therefore enacted by His Excellency the Governor of New South Wales with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof as follows:-- 1. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirty-nine thousand five hundred and fifty-nine pounds two shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Civil Establishments of the said Colony unpro vided for by the second part of the Schedule to the said recited Act of Parliament annexed marked A for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and sixty-seven pounds six shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of His Excellency the Governor General's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds to defray the salary of the Government Resident at Moreton Bay and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand five hundred and ten pounds and six-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Legislative Council Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twelve thousand six hundred and fifty pounds five shillings to defray the salaries allow ances and contingencies of the General Post Office Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and fifty pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Postage Stamp Printing Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand one hundred and sixty-seven pounds eleven shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Port Master's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and twenty-seven pounds to defray the salaries and con tingencies of the Telegraph Stations and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and sixty-eight pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Light-house Establish ment at the South Head of Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and seventy-eight pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Floating Light Establishment in Port Jackson and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ninetythree pounds to defray the salary and contingencies of the Establish ment of the Pilot in charge of the Basin at Wollongong and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred pounds five shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Establish ment of the Harbour Master at Newcastle and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand three hundred and fifty-four pounds seven shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and con tingencies of the Establishment of the Harbour Master at Moreton Bay and any sum or sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand and eighty pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies contingencies of the Colonial Storekeeper's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand four hundred and two pounds eighteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Colonial Architect's Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred and seventy-six pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishment of the Director of the Botanic Gardens and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred and ninety-four pounds eleven shillings to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Establishments for keeping in order the Outer and Inner Government Domains and Hyde Park Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand one hundred and thirty-nine pounds eight shillings to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Government Printing Establishment. 2. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and forty-three pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries of Coroners and the salary of the Clerk to the Coroner of Sydney for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three. 3. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand one hundred and ninety-five pounds to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Education Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and eighty-five pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Protestant Orphan School Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred and ten pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Roman Catholic Orphan School Parramatta. 4. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand seven hundred and eighty-seven pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Medical Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not, exceeding four hundred and fifty-five pounds to defray the salaries of the Health Officers at Port Jackson Newcastle and Moreton Bay and the salary of the Clerk to the Medical Board and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand six hundred and forty-seven pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and eighty-five pounds to defray the salaries and contingencies of the Lunatic Asylum Parra matta. 5. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding sixteen thousand four hundred and seventy-three pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries allowances and con tingencies of the Gold Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particu larly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding eleven thousand two hundred and eighty-eight pounds to defray the salaries of the Gold Establishments within the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand seven hundred and twenty-seven pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries of the Gold Establishments beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums sums of money not exceeding three thousand one hundred and twentynine pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries of the Gold Escort Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and twenty-seven pounds fifteen shillings to defray the salaries of the Gold Receiving Department consisting of two Clerks at Sydney and four District Receivers. 6. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding thirteen thousand four hundred and twenty-eight pounds eighteen shillings and four-pence to defray the salaries and allowances of the Military Establishment for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three. 7. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eighty-four thousand three hundred and four pounds three shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries allowances and contingencies of the Police Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand six hundred and forty-two pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries of the Establishment of the Inspector General of Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eighteen thousand six hundred and sixty pounds sixteen shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries of the Police Estab lishment for the City and District of Sydney being one thousand nine hundred and seventy-seven pounds two shillings and six-pence for the Judicial Department of the City thirteen thousand and sixty-three pounds seventeen shillings and six-pence for the Constabulary of the City one thousand six hundred and forty-three pounds seven shillings and six-pence for the Horse Patrol of the City and one thousand nine hundred and seventy-six pounds eight shillings and nine-pence for the Constabulary of the District and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand six hundred and seventeen pounds eleven shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries of the Water Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand one hundred and fifteen pounds to defray the salaries of Police Magistrates and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand nine hundred and ninety-two pounds ten shillings to defray the salaries of Clerks of Petty Sessions being four thousand seven hundred and forty-two pounds ten shillings for Clerks within and three thousand two hundred and fifty pounds for Clerks beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand pounds to defray the salaries of Chief Constables being three thousand eight hundred and seventy-five pounds for Chief Con stables within and three thousand one hundred and twenty-five pounds for Chief Constables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand nine hundred and seventy pounds three shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries of District Constables being two thousand six hundred and eighty-two pounds fifteen shillings for District Constables within and two hundred and eighty-seven pounds eight shillings and nine-pence for District Con stables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-six thousand six hundred and thirteen pounds one shilling and three-pence to defray the salaries of Ordinary Con stables being eighteen thousand nine hundred and eighty-four pounds eleven shillings and three-pence for Ordinary Constables within and seven thousand six hundred and twenty-eight pounds ten shillings for Ordinary Constables beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand eight hundred and nine pounds pounds thirteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries of the Horse Patrol in the Country Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand one hundred and twenty-six pounds fifteen shillings to defray the salaries of the Native Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand seven hundred and fifty-six pounds ten shillings for Police Allowances being two hundred and ten pounds for the City and District Police of Sydney ninetyfive pounds sixteen shillings and three-pence for the Water Police six hundred and nine pounds for the Police within the Settled Districts four hundred and ninety-five pounds three shillings and nine-pence for the Police beyond the Settled Districts two hundred and forty pounds for the Horse Patrol in Country Districts and three thousand one hundred and six pounds ten shillings for the Native Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four thousand pounds for Police Contingencies being three thousand pounds to meet claims for additional pay of the Constabulary generally for length of service and good conduct according to the scale of increase recommended in the Progress Report of the Select Committee of the Legislative Council adopted by the Council on the seventeenth of September one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two and one thousand pounds to meet the expense of any increase to the Water Police Force which may be necessary for the prevention of desertion and the maintenance of order among seamen. 8. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand four hundred and sixty-six pounds eight shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries of the Gaol and Penal Establishments of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand three hundred and nineteen pounds twelve shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries of the Sydney Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand one hundred and fiftyeight pounds six shillings and three-pence to defray the salaries of the Parramatta Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine hundred and ten pounds seventeen shillings and six pence to defray the salaries of the Bathurst Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and twenty pounds seven shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries of the Mailland Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight hundred and sixty-five pounds one shilling and three-pence to defray the salaries of the Goulburn Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand and six pounds thirteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the salaries of the Brisbane Gaol Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred and six pounds seven shillings and six-pence for the maintenance of the Penal Establishment at Cockatoo Island and any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and seventy-nine pounds two shillings and six-pence to defray the salaries and allowances of the Penal Establishment at Newcastle. 9. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifty pounds to defray the salary of the Colonial Agent General for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three. 10. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred pounds to defray Pensions and Retired Allowances for the year one thousand eight hundred and fiftythree three--being two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Forbes widow of Sir Francis Forbes formerly Chief Justice two hundred pounds as Pension to Lady Dowling widow of Sir James Dowling late Chief Justice one hundred pounds as Pension to Mrs. Anne Kinchela widow of the late Mr. Justice Kinchela and one hundred pounds as allowance to Mr. J o h n Eyre retired Teacher of the Church of England School at Parramatta. 11. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred and fifty pounds to defray the expense of Coroners exclusive of Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three. 12. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand three hundred and fifty-five pounds to defray Charitable Allowances for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three--being one thousand four hundred pounds for the support of Free Paupers in the Colonial Hospitals seven hundred pounds in aid of the Sydney Infirmary and Dispensary on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions four thousand two hundred and fifty-five pounds in aid of the Benevolent Society Sydney on condition of one thousand pounds being raised by volun tary contributions one thousand pounds in aid of the Asylum for Destitute Children Sydney on condition of an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions one thousand six hundred pounds in aid of the Hospitals at Parramatta Windsor Bathurst Newcastle Port Macquarie Goulburn Yass and Brisbane at two hundred pounds each on condition of sums to an equal amount being raised by private subscriptions three hundred pounds in aid of the Hospital at Maitland on the like condition and one hundred pounds in aid of the Benevolent Society at Parramatta on the like condition. 13. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty thousand five hundred and twenty-five pounds to defray the charge for Schools exclusive of Establishments for for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred and eighty-five pounds to defray the expense of the Protestant Orphan School Parramatta exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand three hundred and thirty pounds to defray the expense of the Roman Catholic Orphan School at Parramatta exclusive of the Estab lishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding ten thousand six hundred and ten pounds in support of Denominational Schools to be expended under the direction of the Board of Inspection--being five thousand four hundred and sixty-four pounds for Church of England Schools one thousand and fifty-one pounds for Presbyterian Schools five hundred and seventy-nine pounds for Wesleyan Schools three thousand two hundred and sixty-six pounds for Roman Catholic Schools and two hundred and fifty pounds to defray the expense of the said Board of Inspection and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven thousand pounds in support of National Schools--being five thousand pounds for such Schools within and two thousand pounds for such Schools beyond the Settled Districts. 14. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand and sixty-six pounds eighteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the charge of the Medical Establishments exclusive of Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds to defray the expense of maintaining the Vaccine Establishment in the City of Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand four hundred and fifty-eight pounds eighteen shillings and nine-pence to defray the expense of the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand five hundred and eight pounds to defray the expense of the Lunatic Asylum at Parramatta exclusive of the Establishment. 15. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding seventeen thousand five hundred and ten pounds to defray the expense of the Gold Establishments of the said Colony exclusive of Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fiftythree as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding six thousand three hundred and ten pounds to defray the expense of the Gold Establishment within the Settled Districts exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds to defray the expense of the Gold Establishment beyond the Settled Districts exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand two hundred pounds to defray the expense of the Gold Escort Police Establishment exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand pounds to defray the contingent expenses of the Gold Establishment--being one thousand pounds to meet the expense of exploring the Gold Districts and two thousand pounds to meet unforeseen Expenses in cases of emergency in the Gold Fields and to be hereafter accounted for and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand pounds to meet the expense of the Conveyance of Gold and Money and of Escorts for the same. 16. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding six hundred and ninety-two pounds five shillings and one penny to defray the expense of the Military Establishment of the said Colony exclusive of the Establishment for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three. 17. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding fifteen thousand four hundred and seventy-two pounds to defray the charge of the Police Establishments of the said Colony exclusive of Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and twenty pounds to defray the expense of the Establishment of the Inspector General of Police exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding four hundred and thirty pounds to defray the expense of the City Constabulary exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and forty-six pounds to defray the expense of the Horse Patrol in the City and District of Sydney exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred pounds to defray the expense of the Sydney District Constabulary exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one hundred and fifteen pounds to defray the expense of the Water Police Establishment exclusive of the Establishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five thousand and twenty-five pounds to defray the expense of Police within the Settled Districts exclusive of Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand two hundred and N--VOL. 4 seventy-four seventy-four pounds to defray the expense of Police beyond the Settled Districts exclusive of Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds to meet demands upon the Police Reward and Superannuation Funds and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and fifty pounds to meet Rewards for information against offenders and other contingencies and exigencies of Police and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand nine hundred and thirty-two pounds to defray the expense of the Horse Patrol in Country Districts exclusive of Establishments and any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine hundred and eighty pounds to defray the expense of the Native Police exclusive of the Estab lishment and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand pounds to meet contingent and unforeseen Expenses of Police and special allowances to any Chief Constable whose duties may render it incumbent upon the Government to increase his proposed rate of pay. 18. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding eight thousand five hundred and sixty pounds to defray the expense of Gaols and Penal Establishments of the said Colony exclusive of Establishments for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three--being one thousand six hundred and ninety pounds for the Sydney Gaol eight hundred and twenty-five pounds for the Parramatta Gaol one thousand one hundred and forty-six pounds for the Bathurst Gaol seven hundred and fifty pounds for the Maitland Gaol six hundred and fourteen pounds for the Goulburn Gaol five hundred and forty pounds for the Brisbane Gaol and two thousand nine hundred and ninety-five pounds for the Penal Establishment at Cockatoo Island. 19. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-seven thousand seven hundred and fiftyfive pounds ten shillings to defray the expense of Public Works and Buildings of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding nine thousand three hundred and thirty-six pounds ten shillings to defray the expense of Public Works--being five thousand pounds towards the construction of the Dry Dock at Cockatoo Island one thousand pounds to defray the expense of the employment of the Dredging Machine eight hundred pounds for upholding and keeping in repair the Breakwater at Newcastle thirty-six pounds ten shillings for attending to the Sluices at the Cook's River Dam one hundred pounds for maintaining a Light on Cape Moreton the further sum of two hundred and fifty pounds for improving the Ballast Wharf at Newcastle one hundred and fifty pounds for laying down Mooring Chains in the Harbour of Ulladulla in the County of Saint Vincent one thousand seven hundred pounds for the erection of a Light-house at Newcastle and three hundred pounds for removing Obstructions to Navigation in the channel of communication between the Crookhaven and Shoalhaven Rivers and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three thousand one hundred and twenty-five pounds to defray the expense of Public Buildings--being the further sum of one thousand pounds towards various alterations and additions at the Lunatic Asylum at Tarban Creek the further sum of two thousand pounds towards erecting a Public Abattoir on Glebe Island and one hundred and twenty-five pounds for carving Shields of Arms and Ornaments in the Panels on the South and East sides of Govern ment House and for providing the materials and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and twenty pounds to defray the expense of School Buildings--being two hundred and fifty pounds for making making additions to the Protestant Orphan School at Parramatta and four hundred and seventy pounds for completing Fencing Building and Land and providing Furniture for the New Roman Catholic Orphan School at Parramatta and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds for building Watch-houses Barracks and Stabling for the Gold Establishments in the Liverpool and Gwydir Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand two hundred and nine pounds for Military Buildings -- being six hundred and seventy-nine pounds for incidental repairs to Barracks thirty pounds for repairs to the Batteries at Dawes' Point Fort Phillip Fort Macquarie and Bradley's Head two hundred and fifty pounds for repairing the Building and Platforms at Fort Macquarie one hundred pounds for repairs to Military Buildings in the Country Districts and one hundred and fifty pounds towards the construction of the Military Gardens and Cricket Ground and any sum or sums of money not exceeding the further sum of one thousand pounds towards the erection of a new Water Police Office in Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand nine hundred and ten pounds to defray the expense of Police Buildings within the Settled Districts--being the further sum of seventy pounds for building a Watch-house at Kiama thirty pounds for building Stables at Kiama two hundred and seventy pounds for building a Watch-house at Collector six hundred pounds for building a Court and Watchhouse at Moruya two hundred and seventy pounds for building a Watch-house at Binda two hundred and fifty pounds for building a Watch-house at Black Creek two hundred and fifty pounds for build ing a Watch-house at Muswellbrook two hundred and fifty pounds for building a Watch-house to serve as a Police and Escort Station between Carcoar and Bathurst and Orange and Bathurst two hundred and fifty pounds for building a Watch-house between Molong and Wellington two hundred and seventy pounds for building a Watch-house at Ipswich one hundred pounds for building a Watch-house at South Brisbane and three hundred pounds for erecting Shed-Stables and for fencing Paddocks and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand and ninety pounds to defray the expense of Police Buildings beyond the Settled Districts--being for building Watchhouses at Deniliquin Armidale and Namoi at two hundred and fifty pounds each and sixty pounds for building a Watch-house at Gayndah two hundred and fifty pounds each for building Court and Watchhouses at Casino and Castlereagh River three hundred pounds for erecting Court and Watch-house at Wagga Wagga three hundred pounds for erecting Police Buildings on the Lower Condamine and one hundred and eighty pounds for erecting Shed-Stables and for fencing Paddocks and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds for erecting Escort Station-houses and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two hundred and forty-five pounds for Horse Patrol Buildings in the Country Districts--being twenty pounds to repair Patrol Stables at Parramatta fifty pounds each for erecting Stables and Quarters at Weatherboard and Blackheath twenty pounds for erecting Stables at Hartley ten pounds for erecting Stables at Diamond Swamp fifty pounds for erecting Stabling and Quarters at Bathurst five pounds to fence round the Stable-yard and forty pounds for Officers' Quarters at Bathurst and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred pounds for the repair of Police Buildings--being four hundred pounds for the repair of such Buildings within and three hundred pounds for the repair of such Buildings beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds to defray the expense of the employment of Prisoners sentenced to hard labor on Works in Darlinghurst Gaol and any sum or sums of money not not exceeding five hundred and fifty pounds to defray the expense of the Government Domain Sydney exclusive of the Establishments--being three hundred pounds for constructing Drains in the Outer Domain one hundred and fifty pounds for keeping in repair the Gates and Fences and making improvements in the Outer Domain and one hun dred pounds for repairing the Gates Fences and Roads and for making improvements in the Inner Domain and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred and seventy pounds to defray the expense of the Botanic Gardens Sydney exclusive of the Establishment being fifty pounds for keeping in repair the Gates and Fences one hundred and twenty pounds for laying down a "Water Pipe from Macquariestreet to the Gardens one hundred and fifty pounds for completing the Sea "Wall fencing and filling up the ground enclosed and fifty pounds for repairs to Glass House Plant Frames Store Rooms and Lecture Room and any sum or sums of money not exceeding five hundred pounds for expenditure under the superintendence of the Committee of Management Hyde Park and any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of casual repairs additions and alterations to Colonial Public Build ings as per Return annexed (at page forty-six) to the Revised Estimates of Expenditure for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds to defray the expense of Furniture and Fittings for Colonial Public Offices. 20. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-six thousand eight hundred and fifty pounds for constructing upholding and repairing the Public Roads Bridges and Ferries of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three as hereinafter more particularly expressed that is to say any sum or sums of money not exceeding two thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of constructing upholding and repairing the Public Roads Bridges and Ferries on which Tolls have been established and any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty-one thousand pounds to defray the expense of the Main Leading Thoroughfares of the Colony--being ten thousand two hun dred and fifty pounds for repair of the Main Leading Thoroughfares within the Settled Districts five thousand five hundred and fifty pounds for repair of the Leading Thoroughfares subordinate to the above within the Settled Districts and five thousand two hundred pounds for repair of the Leading Thoroughfares beyond the Settled Districts and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds to defray the expense of repairing the Botany and Mudbank Road and any sum or sums of money not exceeding three hundred pounds for lighting the Government Lamps in the Streets of Sydney and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds for the construction of a Bridge over the Mulwaree Ponds at the entrance of the Town of Goulburn and any sum or sums of money not exceeding one thousand pounds towards the construction of a Bridge over the Macquarie River at Bathurst and any sum or sums of money not exceeding seven hundred and fifty pounds towards continuing the South Head Road to "Watson's Bay. 21. Out of the produce of the said taxes duties rates and imposts there shall and may be issued and applied any sum or sums of money not exceeding twenty thousand five hundred pounds to defray the expense of the Conveyance of the Mails of the said Colony for the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty-three--being thirteen thousand four hundred pounds for the said service within the Settled Districts six thousand one hundred pounds for the said service beyond b e y o n d t h e S e t t l e d D i s t r i c t s five h u n d r e d p o u n d s for Coast M a i l s a n d five h u n d r e d p o u n d s for G r a t u i t i e s to M a s t e r s of Vessels for Ship letters. 22.
