A n Act to enable Defendants to give evidence in all cases of Summary Conviction [4th October, 1882.] H E R E A S it is e x p e d i e n t to enable persons c h a r g e d w i t h a n y offence p u n i s h a b l e o n s u m m a r y conviction before M a g i s t r a t e s t o give evidence B e it therefore e n a c t e d b y t h e Q u e e n ' s M o s t E x c e l l e n t M a j e s t y b y a n d w i t h t h e advice a n d c o n s e n t of t h e Legislative Council a n d L e g i s l a t i v e A s s e m b l y of N e w South W a l e s i n P a r l i a m e n t assembled a n d b y t h e a u t h o r i t y of t h e s a m e as follows :-- 1. F r o m a n d after t h e p a s s i n g of t h i s A c t it shall be lawful for t h e d e f e n d a n t or t h e h u s b a n d or wife of t h e defendant to give evidence i n all cases i n w h i c h M a g i s t r a t e s are a u t h o r i z e d to exercise a s u m m a r y jurisdiction. 2.
