GOVERNMENT RAILWAYS (AMENDMENT) ACT, 1979, No. 123 ANNO VICESIMO OCTAVO ELIZABETHE II REGINE Act N o . 1 2 3 , 1 9 7 9 . An Act to amend the Government Railways Act, 1912, to increase the amount of compensation recoverable against the Public Transport Commission of New South Wales in respect of certain damage to property caused by fire and to make certain amendments for the purpose of metric conversion. [Assented to, 1st November, 1979.] BE it enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :-- 1. This Act may be cited as the "Government Railways (Amendment) Act, 1979". 2. (1) The Government Railways Act, 1912, is amended-- (a) by omitting from section 28 the word "ton" wherever occurring and by inserting instead the word "tonne"; (b) by omitting from section 28 the words "one hundredweight" wherever occurring and by inserting instead the matter "50 kilograms". (2) The amendments made by subsection (1) are for the purpose of metric conversion as referred to in the Metric Conversion (Savings) Act, 1974. 3. (1) The Government Railways Act, 1912, is further amended by omitting from section 145 the words "four thousand dollars" and by inserting instead the matter "$20,000". (2) The amendment made by subsection (1) does not apply so as to increase the amount recoverable under section 145 of the Government Railways Act, 1912, in respect of loss of or damage or injury to property sustained before the date of assent to this Act.
