LAKE ILLAWARRA AND COWRA POWER STATIONS (CONSTRUCTION) ACT. Act No. 2 , 1949. An Act to sanction the construction of power stations for the purpose of generating electricity by steam power at Lake Illawarra and Cowra with transmission lines and necessary subsidiary works for the distribution of electricity therefrom; to amend the Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942, and certain other Acts; and for purposes connected therewith. [Assented to, 12th April, 1949.] B E it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legis lative Council and Legislative Assembly of New South Wales in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :-- 1 . This Act may be cited as the "Lake Illawarra and Cowra Power Stations (Construction) Act, 1949". 2 . (1) (a) The carrying out of the works described in the First and Second Schedules to this Act is hereby sanctioned. (b) The said works shall be deemed to be authorised works within the meaning of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts. (c) The Minister for Public Works is empowered to carry out the said works and shall be the constructing authority for the same within the meaning of the said Act, as so amended, and shall enter into such contracts and take all such necessary steps for the proper execution thereof as such authority may think proper. (d). (d) The provisions of the Public Works Act 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts, sections thirtyfour, thirty-five, thirty-six and thirty-seven excepted, shall apply to and in respect of the said works. (2) Without prejudice to the generality of subsec tion one of this section, the provisions of section thirtyeight of the Public Works Act, 1912, as amended by subsequent Acts, shall apply to and in respect of any contracts referred to in paragraph (c) of subsection one of this section. 3 . The plans of the said works are the plans marked "Lake Illawarra Power Station" and "Cowra Power Station" respectively signed by the Minister for Public Works and countersigned by the Chief Engineer, Depart ment of Public Works, and deposited in the public office of the said Minister. 4 . (1) The cost of carrying out the work described in the First Schedule to this Act (exclusive of land resumptions) is estimated at ten million pounds. (2) The cost of carrying out the work described in the Second Schedule to this Act (exclusive of land resumptions) is estimated at two hundred and fifty thousand pounds. (3) Such estimated cost shall not in either case or in any circumstances be exceeded by more than ten per centum. 5 . (1) The Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942, as amended by subsequent Acts, is amended by inserting next after paragraph (f1) of section six the following new paragraph:-- (f2) the works constructed pursuant to the Lake Illawarra and Cowra Power Stations (Construc tion) Act, 1949. (2) The Southern Electricity (Administration) Act, 1942, as amended by subsequent Acts and by this Act, may be cited as the Southern Electricity (Adminis tration) Act, 1942-1949. FIRST ' E I K S T SCHEDULE. A power station on the shores of Lake Illawarra for the generation of electricity by steam power equipped with two turbine-generators each rated at thirty thousand kilowatts, and each with a boiler capable of producing three hundred thousand pounds of steam per hour at a pressure of six hundred pounds per square inch and having provision for the ultimate inclusion of five of such turbine-generators with boilers, together with all necessary ancillary plant, equipment, substations and high tension transmission lines and such other works as may be deemed necessary for the efficient establishment and operation of such power station. The work is to be subject to such modifications as the Minister for Public Works may deem necessary. SECOND SCHEDULE. A power station at Cowra for the generation of electricity by steam, together with all necessary plant and equipment, substations and high tension transmission lines and such other works as may be deemed necessary for the efficient establishment and operation of such power station. The work is to be subject to such modifications as the Minister for Public Works may deem necessary.
