1994--No. 4 MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY ACT 1989--BY-LAW (Relating to the election of Council members who are members of Convocation) NEW SOUTH WALES [Published in Gazette No. 8 of 7 January 1994] HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Macquarie University Act 1989, has been pleased to approve the By-law made by the Council of the Macquarie University and set forth hereunder. VIRGINIA CHADWICK Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs. The Council of the Macquarie University, in pursuance of the Macquarie University Act 1989, makes the following By-law: The Macquarie University By-laws are amended by omitting By-law IV.4 (c) (ii) and by inserting instead the following subparagraph: (ii) the person is not a member of the staff of the University or a student of the University; 2 1994--No. 4 The COMMON SEAL of the MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY was hereto affixed on the twelfth day of March in the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-three in pursuance of a Resolution of the Council by the: PROFESSOR DI YERBURY, Vice-Chancellor in the presence of the: B. J. SPENCER, Registrar and Vice-Principal EXPLANATORY NOTE The object of this By-law is to alter the entitlement to vote in the election of members of Convocation to the Council of Macquarie University. Currently under By-law IV.4 (c) (ii) any member of staff who is not a full-time member and who is a member of Convocation is eligible to vote in the election of a member of Convocation. In addition, such a member of staff would be eligible to vote to elect a member of academic staff or non-academic staff to the Council (By-law IV.1 and IV.2, respectively). The object of this By-law is to remove this anomaly by disqualifying any member of Convocation who is a member of staff of the University (whether full-time or part-time) from voting in the election of a member of Convocation to the Council.
