New South Wales Children (Care and Protection) Amendment (Prescribed Bodies) Regulation 1998 under the Children (Care and Protection) Act 1987 His Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Children (Care and Protection) Act 1987. Faye Lo PoŽ Minister for Community Services Explanatory note The object of this Regulation is to prescribe certain bodies and classes of bodies as prescribed bodies for the purposes of section 22 (Notification of child abuse) of the Children (Care and Protection) Act 1987. That section enables the Director-General of the Department of Community Services to furnish a prescribed body with information relating to the welfare of a particular child or class of children for the purposes of an investigation under that section, or of an action arising out of such an investigation, and to direct a prescribed body to furnish the Director-General with information relating to the welfare of a particular child or class of children. Page 2 1998 No 47 Children (Care and Protection) Amendment (Prescribed Bodies) Regulation 1998 Amendment Schedule 1 Schedule 1 Clause 16A Amendment (Clause 2) Insert after clause 16: 16A Notification of child abuse For the purposes of section 22 of the Act, the following bodies or classes of bodies are prescribed: (a) non-government agencies that are funded or licensed by the Minister or the Minister for Disability Services, (b) any body that provides any of the following services to a child or any other person on a formal or regular basis: health care services (for example, community health centres, medical centres), children's services (for example, child care centres, toy libraries, adoption agencies), educational services (for example, preschools, parent education associations), recreational services (for example, sporting clubs), counselling and therapy services (for example, drop in centres, mediation firms, welfare organisations), disability support services (for example, respite care centres, advocacy organisations, support organisations), accommodation services (for example, women's refuges, hostels, residential institutions), (viii) information services (for example, neighbourhood centres), (ix) youth services (for example, youth drop-in centres. youth education organisations).
