1996--No. 138 TRAFFIC ACT 1909--REGULATION (Relating to the precedence at ferries or punts of fire engines and other vehicles proceeding to a fire or other emergency) NEW SOUTH WALES [Published in Gazette No. 49 of 19 April 1996] HIS Excellency the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, and in pursuance of the Traffic Act 1909, has been pleased to make the Regulation set forth hereunder. The Motor Traffic Regulations 1935 are amended: (a) by omitting Regulation 79 (2) (c) and by inserting instead the following paragraph: (a) Fire engine, reel or other vehicle apparently proceeding in the charge of a fire fighter to a fire or other emergency; (b) by omitting Regulation 80 (2) (b) and by inserting instead the following paragraph: (b) any fire engine, reel or other vehicle apparently proceeding in the charge of a fire fighter to a fire or other emergency; EXPLANATORY NOTE The object of this Regulation is to enable any fire engine, reel or other vehicle of which a fire fighter proceeding to a fire or other emergency has charge to take precedence at a ferry or punt. The Regulation also replaces a reference to "fireman" with a reference to "fire fighter". This Regulation is made under the Traffic Act 1909, including section 3 (the general regulation making power).
