AGENTS LICENSING AMENDMENT BILL 2015

AGENTS LICENSING AMENDMENT BILL 2015
SERIAL NO. 134

LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

MINISTER FOR RACING, GAMING AND LICENSING

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

GENERAL OUTLINE

This Bill amends the Agents Licensing Act.

The purpose of the Bill is to remove the age discriminatory provisions of subsection 7(9) of the Agents Licensing Act, which prohibits a member to hold office beyond 65 years of age.

This discrimination on the basis of age clearly has no place in our society and has the potential to deprive the Territory of access to the skills and experience of a highly valued group in our society.

The Industry representative on the Agents Licensing Board wrote to the Attorney-General seeking to have the age restrictions removed so that she could apply for a second term.

This Bill will ensure that the Agents Licensing Board will be able to operate without any impediment, and that in future we will have access to the broadest possible range of skilled Territorians to serve on our boards and committees.
