Explanatory Notes for Amendments to be
moved during consideration in detail by the
Honourable Judy Spence MP

Short title
The short title of the Bill is the Motor Racing Events (Townsville)
Amendment Bill 2008.

Objective of the Amendments
The objective of the amendment is to insert a clause to enable the Act to
commence on a day to be fixed by proclamation.

Reasons for the Amendments
Negotiations between the Queensland Government and Townsville City
Council are progressing well and the Council will formally consider its
contribution at its next meeting.
The inclusion of a commencement clause enables the legislation to
commence on a day to be fixed after the Townsville City Council
contribution to the cost of constructing the Townsville V8 Supercars event
precinct is resolved.

Consistency with Fundamental Legislative Principles
The amendment has been drafted with regard to fundamental legislative
principles as defined in section 4 of the Legislative Standards Act 1992.

Consultation
There has been no consultation in relation to the amendment.
