         ACQUISITION BILL 1993

                       EXPLANATORY NOTE

GENERAL OUTLINE

Objectives of the Legislation

  The objectives of the Bill are to acquire environmentally significant lands
comprising certain freehold parcels, Starcke Pastoral Development Holding
and four Occupation Licences being the Starcke Pastoral Holdings in Cape
York and to provide for the payment of compensation.


Reasons for the Bill
  The Starcke Pastoral Holdings have been identified as having significant
environmental values that should be preserved for posterity.


Estimated Cost for Government Implementation
   The cost to Government will be the quantum of compensation agreed
with the owner/lessee/licensee or, failing agreement, as determined under
the Acquisition of Land Act or Land Act.


Consultation
   The Department of Environment and Heritage has been consulted in
respect of the environmental significance of the lands. The Crown Solicitor
supports the need for legislation.

 


 

2 Starcke Pastoral Holdings Acquisition Bill 1993 Notes on Provision Clause 1 sets out the short title of the Act. Clause 2 provides for commencement to be fixed by Proclamation. Clause 3 provides for definition of the land to be acquired. Clause 4 provides the machinery provision for the acquisition of the land. Clause 5 provides for payment of compensation as agreed or, failing agreement, the method of determination. Clause 6 provides for the making of regulations. � The State of Queensland 1993
