List of legislation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 12 12 12 13 13 s1 3 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 s4 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 [reprinted as in force on 1 January 2006] 1 Short title This notice may be cited as the Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005. 2 Commencement This notice commences on 1 January 2006. 3 Macropods to which notice applies This notice applies to the following (each a harvest macropod)-- (a) (b) (c) (d) 4 an eastern grey kangaroo (Macropus giganteus); a red kangaroo (Macropus rufus); a wallaroo (Macropus robustus); a whiptail wallaby (Macropus parryi). Definitions In this notice-- conservation plan means the Nature (Macropod) Conservation Plan 2005. Conservation dress, a macropod, see the conservation plan, schedule 2. fully dressed, in relation to a macropod, means a macropod with all of the following parts removed-- (a) (b) the head; all of the viscera; s4 4 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 s4 (c) (d) (e) (f) each of the forelimbs, from a point between the elbow and wrist; the foot from one hindlimb, from the point immediately below the ankle; the other hindlimb, from a point between the knee and ankle; the part of the tail that is below the sixth caudal vertebra. harvest macropod see section 3. macropod harvesting licence see the conservation plan, schedule 2. prescribed part, of a macropod, means the following parts of the macropod-- (a) (b) (c) the head; the heart, liver and lungs, or 1 or more parts of the heart, liver and lungs; the forelimbs, from a point between the elbow and wrist, and hindlimbs, from a point between the knee and the point immediately below the ankle, or 1 or more of the limbs; a part of the tail that includes 2 or more caudal vertebrae. (d) relevant estimated population size, for a harvest macropod, for a relevant region for the macropod, means the population size estimated by the chief executive for the macropod for the region for 2006. relevant maximum amount means-- (a) for an eastern grey kangaroo-- (i) for the central region for the kangaroo--14.9% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or (ii) for the eastern region for the kangaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or s5 5 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 s5 (iii) for the western region for the kangaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or (b) for a red kangaroo-- (i) for the central region for the kangaroo--18.6% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or (ii) for the eastern region for the kangaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or (iii) for the western region for the kangaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the kangaroo for the region; or (c) for a wallaroo-- (i) for the central region for the wallaroo--14.9% of the relevant estimated population size for the wallaroo for the region; or (ii) for the eastern region for the wallaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the wallaroo for the region; or (iii) for the western region for the wallaroo--10% of the relevant estimated population size for the wallaroo for the region; or (d) for a whiptail wallaby for a relevant region for the wallaby--1% of the relevant estimated population size for the wallaby for the region. relevant region, for a harvest macropod, means each region mentioned and described in the schedule for the macropod. 5 Harvest period for harvest macropods (1) A harvest period for a harvest macropod starts, for each relevant region for the macropod, on 1 January 2006 and ends at the end of-- (a) if the chief executive has published a notice stating the chief executive is satisfied the relevant maximum s6 6 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 s6 amount for the macropod for the region will have been taken by a particular day--the particular day; or (b) (a) (b) otherwise--31 December 2006. in a newspaper circulating generally throughout the State; and on or before the day the harvest period ends.1 (2) A notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) must be published-- (3) If the chief executive publishes, or intends to publish, a notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) for a macropod, the chief executive must also give each holder of a macropod harvesting licence for the macropod a written notice stating-- (a) the chief executive is satisfied the relevant maximum amount for the macropod for a stated relevant region will have been taken by a particular day; and the harvest period for the macropod for the region ends at the end of that day. (b) (4) The chief executive must give the notice mentioned in subsection (3) at least 7 days before the day the harvest period ends. 6 Minimum area for skin of harvest macropod taken for skin only For section 12 of the conservation plan, the minimum area for the skin of a harvest macropod taken for its skin only is-- (a) (b) for a whiptail wallaby--0.32m2; or for another harvest macropod--0.37m2. 1 A copy of a notice published under this section may be inspected on the department's website. At the commencement of this section, the department's website was . s7 7 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 s8 7 Minimum weights for carcass of harvest macropod taken for meat only or meat and skin For section 13 of the conservation plan, for the carcass of a harvest macropod taken for its meat only or for both its meat and skin-- (a) (b) the minimum whole weight is 20kg; and the minimum dressed weight is-- (i) if the macropod is fully dressed--13kg; or (ii) otherwise--13kg plus 1kg for each prescribed part of the macropod that has not been removed. 8 Expiry This notice expires on 31 December 2006. 8 Nature Conservation (2006 Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2005 Schedule Relevant regions for macropods section 4, definition relevant region Part 1 Eastern grey kangaroo Central region The central region for eastern grey kangaroos consists of the areas of the following local governments-- Aramac, Balonne, Barcaldine, Barcoo, Bendemere, Blackall, Booringa, Bulloo, Bungil, Flinders, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Longreach, McKinlay, Murilla, Murweh, Paroo, Quilpie, Richmond, Tambo, Tara, Taroom, Waggamba, Warroo and Winton.
