List of legislation. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8 8 8 9 9 s1 3 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 s3 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 [reprinted as in force on 1 March 2005] 1 Short title This standard may be cited as the Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005. 2 Commencement This standard commences on 1 March 2005. 3 Definitions In this standard-- marine surveyor means a person who surveys a ship or part of a ship. part of a ship means a section of the hull, bulkhead, deck, superstructure, electrical systems or machinery (including propulsion and associated systems) of a ship. regulation means the Transport Operations (Marine Safety) Regulation 2004. ship builder means a person who builds a ship or part of a ship. ship designer means a person who designs a ship or part of a ship. s4 4 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 s6 4 Purpose of standard The purpose of this standard is to state how a person qualifies for accreditation as a ship designer, ship builder or marine surveyor under section 441 of the regulation. 5 Knowledge of obligations under Act, regulation and standards (1) A person who wants to be accredited as a ship designer, ship builder or marine surveyor must know about-- (a) the obligations imposed under this Act on a person who is accredited as a ship designer, ship builder or marine surveyor; and the requirements of the appropriate standards. (b) (2) Sections 6 to 8 set out additional requirements for each accreditation. 6 Ship designers--specific requirements (1) A person who wants to be accredited as a ship designer must have-- (a) (b) at least 10 years experience; or at least 5 years experience and 1 of the following qualifications-- (i) a degree in naval architecture; (ii) an engineering degree with a major in naval architecture; (iii) a diploma, associate diploma or certificate in naval architecture; (iv) other qualifications the person satisfies the general manager are equivalent to, or better than, the 1 Section 44 (Accreditation as a ship designer, ship builder or marine surveyor) of the regulation s7 5 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 s7 qualifications mentioned in subparagraphs (i) to (iii). (2) A person who wants to be accredited as a ship designer for part of a ship must have-- (a) 1 of the following qualifications-- (i) a trade qualification as an electrician; (ii) a trade qualification as a marine fitter; (iii) other qualifications the person satisfies the general manager are equivalent to, or better than the qualifications mentioned in subparagraphs (i) and (ii); and (b) at least 2 years post qualification experience. (3) In this section-- experience means-- (a) appropriate experience with demonstrated competence in designing ships of the category for which the accreditation is sought; or a combination of-- (i) appropriate experience with demonstrated competence in designing ships, or parts of ships, of the category for which the accreditation is sought; and (b) (ii) appropriate experience with demonstrated competence in building ships, or parts of ships, of the category for which the accreditation is sought. 7 Ship builders--specific requirements (1) A person who wants to be accredited as a ship builder must have-- (a) (b) at least 10 years experience; or at least 5 years experience and 1 of the following qualifications-- s8 6 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 s8 (i) a certificate in ship building; (ii) a trade qualification as a boat builder; (iii) a trade qualification as a shipwright; (iv) other trade qualifications the person satisfies the general manager are equivalent to, or better than, the qualifications mentioned in subparagraphs (i) to (iii). (2) A person who wants to be accredited as a ship builder for part of a ship must have-- (a) 1 of the following qualifications-- (i) a trade qualification as an electrician; (ii) a trade qualification as a marine fitter; (iii) other qualifications the person satisfies the general manager are equivalent to, or better than, the qualifications mentioned in subparagraphs (i) and (ii); and (b) at least 2 years post qualification experience. (3) In this section-- experience means appropriate experience with demonstrated competence in building ships, or parts of ships, of the category for which the accreditation is sought. 8 Marine surveyors--specific requirements (1) A person who wants to be accredited as a marine surveyor must have-- (a) (b) at least 10 years experience; or at least 5 years experience and 1 of the following qualifications-- s9 7 Transport Operations (Marine Safety--Qualifications for Accreditation for Ship Designers, Ship Builders and Marine Surveyors) Interim Standard 2005 s 10 (i) a certificate issued under the Marine Orders, part 32 as a Master, Master (<3000 GT) or engineer class 1 or 2; (ii) a degree in naval architecture; (iii) a degree in marine engineering; (iv) a diploma, associate diploma or certificate in naval architecture or ship building; (v) a trade qualification as a shipwright or boat builder; (vi) other educational, sea going or trade qualifications the person satisfies the general manager are equivalent to, or better than, the qualifications mentioned in subparagraphs (i) to (v). (2) A person who wants to be accredited as a marine surveyor for part of a ship must have-- (a) (b) a trade qualification as an electrician; and at least 2 years post qualification experience. (3) In this section-- experience means appropriate experience with demonstrated competence in surveying ships, or parts of ships, of the category for which the accreditation is sought.
