                        FACT SHEET

 CRIMINAL CODE AMENDMENT (FIREARMS) BILL
                  2013

The Criminal Code Amendment (Firearms) Bill 2013 amends the
Criminal Code Act 1924 by inserting four new offences in
relation to firearms.

Three of the offences are presently contained in the Firearms
Act and are now being included in the Code to signify the
gravity with which these crimes are regarded. They will be
punishable by up to 21 years imprisonment.

These offences are: "recklessly discharging a firearm",
"possession or use of firearm or firearm part by person subject
to a firearms prohibition order" and "selling or giving
possession of firearm or firearm part to a person who is
subject to a firearms prohibition order".

An additional specific offence will also be introduced for:
"stealing a firearm or firearm part".
