Fire Service Amendment Bill 2016
The bill will amend the Fire Service Act 1979.
It will amend Clause 7(5) to remove the provision that the Chief Officer, Tasmania Fire
Service is the Chair of the State Fire Commission (the Commission).
A provision will be included to appoint an independent Chair of the Commission. The
Chair will be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Minister. The
Chair must be a person whom the Minster considers will carry out the duties in an
independent and fair manner.
The Chief Officer, Tasmania Fire Service will remain a member of the Commission as
Chief Executive Officer.
