Sentencing Amendment (Racial Motivation) Bill 2016
The Sentencing Amendment (Racial Motivation) Bill 2016 makes amendments to the Sentencing
Act 1997 to introduce a statutory sentence aggravation provision in relation to offences that
are racially motivated.
The Bill amends the Sentencing Act 1997 by providing that where an offence is motivated by
racial hatred or prejudice, that motivation must be taken into account as an aggravating factor
sentencing purposes.
