(1)  Before or after the return day of a summons, a justice may extend the return day.

(2)  If the return day for a summons has been extended under subrule (1) , the justice who made the extension is to do the following on both the summons and a copy of the summons:

(a) alter the date on which the summons is returnable;

(b) place his or her initials and the date in the margin next to the alteration.
