                        Introduction Print

              EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM

                              Clause Notes
Clause 1 sets out the purpose of the Bill, which is to amend the Public
Holidays Act 1993 (the Act) to make provision for certain public
           holidays in Victoria.

Clause 2 provides that the Bill comes into operation on the day after the
           Bill receives Royal Assent.

Clause 3 amends section 6 of the Act to include the following days as
public holidays in Victoria: Easter Sunday, the Friday before
the Australian Football League Grand Final and Christmas Day
when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday.
The amendment does not affect the existing public holiday on
Christmas Day when it falls on a weekday. The amendment
also does not affect the existing public holidays on the Monday
after Christmas Day when 25 December (Christmas Day) is a
Saturday or the Tuesday after Christmas Day when 25 December
           (Christmas Day) is a Sunday.

Clause 4 provides that the Bill is repealed on the first anniversary of
its commencement. In accordance with section 15(1) of the
Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984, the repeal of the
Bill will not affect the continuing operation of the amendments
           made by it.
