Public Holidays Amendment Bill 2019 Introduction Print EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM Clause Notes Clause 1 sets out the purpose of the Bill, which is to amend the Public Holidays Act 1993 (the Act) to make provision for certain public holidays in Victoria. Clause 2 provides that the Bill comes into operation on the day after the Bill receives Royal Assent. Clause 3 amends section 6 of the Act to include the following days as public holidays in Victoria: Easter Sunday, the Friday before the Australian Football League Grand Final and Christmas Day when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The amendment does not affect the existing public holiday on Christmas Day when it falls on a weekday. The amendment also does not affect the existing public holidays on the Monday after Christmas Day when 25 December (Christmas Day) is a Saturday or the Tuesday after Christmas Day when 25 December (Christmas Day) is a Sunday. Clause 4 provides that the Bill is repealed on the first anniversary of its commencement. In accordance with section 15(1) of the Interpretation of Legislation Act 1984, the repeal of the Bill will not affect the continuing operation of the amendments made by it. 591031 1 BILL LA INTRODUCTION 26/4/2019
