The conference was held at the Haymarket Campus of the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Maps of the venue are available at http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/conference/1999/maps.html.

Law via the Internet '99 presented over 40 speakers from 12 countries, many of them world-renowned for their work on access to law via the internet. It was a very memorable event for all attending - see the Conference Programme for details.

Tutorials on legal research on the web and on building legal web sites were offered on 21 July, and the Conference proper took place on 22-23 July.

    ACCOMODATION AND TRANSPORT

    General Information
While AustLII is not organising accommodation in Sydney for the conference "Law Via the Internet '99", we recommend browsing the Web sites listed below as they contain many useful links to hotels nearby, and general information about Sydney. The conference venue at the University of Technology, Sydney, is located within a few minutes' walk to both Sydney's waterside tourist attraction, Darling Harbour and Chinatown, where there are dozens of inexpensive restaurants serving food of the highest quality. In addition, the Chinese Garden, Sydney Aquarium, Maritime Museum and the Powerhouse Museum are all within close proximity and well worth a visit.

    Public transport
The monorail, which runs past the Conference venue, provides fast and convenient access to both the conference venue and to the central business district of Sydney. (The average time between monorail services is 3 - 5 minutes). In addition, Sydney's Central station is just around the corner from the venue.

    Accommodation for the Conference
The Novotel at Darling Harbour is particularly convenient for conference attendees as there is a monorail stop outside the front door, and is only 15 minutes from Sydney's airport by taxi. The Novotel has 530 rooms and suites, with STD/IDD direct dial telephones, fax capabilities, and in-house movies. Other features it affords are an outdoor swimming pool, an "all-weather" nightlit, tennis court, and a modern private gymnasium. There are several other hotels in close proximity to the venue: see the link below concerning Sydney Hotels.
