The Australasian Legal Information Institute (AustLII - http://www.austlii.edu.au/) hosted its second conference on 21-23 July 1999. The conference is supported by the following sponsors and exhibitors.
The conference was held at the Haymarket Campus of the University of Technology, Sydney, Australia. Maps of the venue are available at http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/conference/1999/maps.html.
Law via the Internet '99 presented over 40 speakers from 12 countries, many of them world-renowned for their work on access to law via the internet. It was a very memorable event for all attending - see the Conference Programme for details.
Tutorials on legal research on the web and on building legal web sites were offered on 21 July, and the Conference proper took place on 22-23 July.
Proceeds from the Conference will support AustLII's provision of free access to law via the net.
Conference - Registration fees for the Conference (22 & 23 July) are as follows:
Conference registration fees are reduced by A$200 for authors of papers accepted for the Conference.
Tutorials - Registration fees for the Tutorials (21 July) are additional and are as follows:
Registration fee for the Tutorials include lunch for Tutorial B (only).For the Tutorial 'Legal Research on the Web' (morning or afternoon half day session): A$190 Standard registration (legal practitioners, government, business etc) A$140 Academics (full-time) and community organisations (including public libraries) A$90 Students (full-time) (places will be limited). For the Tutorial 'An Introduction to Building a Web Site for Law' (whole day): A$350 Standard registration (legal practitioners, government, business etc) A$250 Academics (full-time) and community organisations (including public libraries) A$175 Students (full-time) (places will be limited).
Public transport
The monorail, which runs past the Conference venue, provides fast and
convenient access to both the conference venue and to the central business
district of Sydney. (The average time between monorail services is 3 -
5 minutes). In addition, Sydney's Central station is just around the corner
from the venue.
Accommodation for the Conference
The Novotel at Darling Harbour is particularly convenient for conference
attendees as there is a monorail stop outside the front door, and is only
15 minutes from Sydney's airport by taxi. The Novotel has 530 rooms and
suites, with STD/IDD direct dial telephones, fax capabilities, and in-house
movies. Other features it affords are an outdoor swimming pool, an "all-weather"
nightlit, tennis court, and a modern private gymnasium. There are several
