This help is structured along the lines of a "how to..." manual.

How do I Create a Feedback Report?

  1. Go to the AustLII Feedback page, at http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/feedback.html.

  2. Click on AustLII Feedback Form.

  3. Click on New Report.

  4. Fill in the form fields. Should be self explanatory. Put "AustLII" as your organisation. Be sure to include as much technical information as you can to help the person responsible diagnose the problem easily. If your browser asks you to accept a "cookie" just say OK.

  5. Done -- the report has been assigned a matter number (in the form of year / number). It should appear in the matter list immediately.

How do I view feedback reports?

  1. Go to the AustLII Feedback page, at http://www.austlii.edu.au/austlii/feedback.html.

  2. Click on AustLII Feedback Form.

  3. Click on View Status. Do not click on View Past Reports, as this is for the general public, and won't allow you to view outstanding matters.

  4. Enter your AustLII web user name and password.

  5. At the top of the page is a search box to type in a matter number if you wish to jump straight to a particular matter. Next comes the list of outstanding reports. Only reports for the current year are listed -- use the links to view previous years.

  6. To view a feedback report, click Read. Clicking the submitters name should open a mail form to send them e-mail, in case you need to request additional information. It should also fill in the Subject field with the appropriate heading.

  7. At the top should be a summary of the report, including its status, the report itself and a summary of details submitted. Next come some actions you can take (see below). Then comes any followups made by AustLII staff, and replies sent by the user that may contain additional information. Finally there is space to send your own followup (see below).

  8. Depending on what you want to do next, see How do I reply to a report?; How do I close a report?; How do I make/unmake a report publicly readable?.

How do I reply to a report?

  1. To view a report, follow the steps above.

  2. You can only reply to a report that is still "open" (ie it is outstanding). Click Read to view the report.

  3. When you are ready to send a response (either to answer a question or request additional information from the user) go to the end of the page and fill out the followup form. It works the same way as sending an e-mail message. Leave the subject line as is. You can add additional recipients on the "To:" line (seperate with commas). Generally, you should leave the "From:" line as is, unless you want any replies to bypass the feedback system. Enter your message in the space provided.

  4. There is a checkbox to make sure your reply is sent to the user who logged the report. Uncheck it if you don't want your followup to go to the user (for example, if the followup is just a "file note"). The box is unchecked by default if the user indicated they weren't interested in a reply.

  5. There is a second checkbox to indicate whether your reply is suitable for public viewing. Even if checked, the reply will only be publicly viewable once the matter has been closed.

  6. To send your reply (or just add it as a file note) click Submit.

  7. Your mail will have the matter number automatically added to the Subject line. If you left the From line alone, then the users reply will automatically be appended to this file as a followup.

How do I close a report?

  1. Once you've decided that the matter has been dealt with you should "close" it. This takes the report off the list of outstanding matters.

  2. To view the matter, follow the steps outlines above.

  3. From the Report Menu, chose "Close Report" to close the report. If you want general public users to be able to view this report, select "Close Report and Make Public". Otherwise the matter will be closed, but not publicly readable.

  4. Generally, you should chose "Close Report and Make Public", so that other users can see the outcome (they may have similar problems / questions). Some reports may be minor or raise privacy issues -- in these cases, close the report but do not make it public.
